Who has not recited, read and enjoyed a wonderful family meeting with the verses of Raphael Pombo? Our grandparents, parents, relatives and teachers have repeated them generation after generation; for this reason, English Teachers from Instituto Universitario, afternoon schedule, chose the traditional verses of Pombo to celebrate – in English - his one-hundred anniversary during the “English Day”.
The characters from fables, tales and poems of Raphael Pombo writings marched at the rhythm of “El Renacuajo Paseador” song. While a host introduced these characters and described their personalities and clothes. Then a dialogue started between “The Poor Grandma” and a judge who is interested in the well-being of the old lady. Speaking with the judge, she could complain about the poverty of her house, food, clothes and of her loneliness.
Later a lovely and naïve boy “Simon the Silly” tried to do different tasks asked by his mother and friends, but things didn´t have a good final for him, however his actions were funny for the students.
At this point the writer “Raphael Pombo” arrived to the stage and a very serious journalist interviewed him asking for his life and job.
Finally all the characters invited to some other students to sing and to dance a modern song

Día de Inglés en el Instituto Universitario
Celebrando nuestra cultura en un idioma extranjero
Corresponsales
